Garden Woes

Living out in the country is both a blessing and a little bit of a curse...it's peaceful, but now and again there is always a slight down side when living next door to nature - particularly those cute little lambs in the field!

We were so looking forward to a bumper crop of home grown potatoes this year...things were looking up as they were fairly growing so far...








When our neighbours appeared in the field next door we were pretty confident that they couldn't get loose with the new fencing up...






 
We left last weekend for the Scottish Game Fair and one lone pesky lamb somehow had a repeated "great escape" and had a relative feast on our beloved tatties!!!

I just hope they don't go after my veg boxes!  Couldn't bear it if it nibbled on those delicious strayberries...

Progress in the garden...

With us so busy getting ready for the summer in the workshop, the garden has been slightly neglected - but we still have some strawberries, unless the birds get them first!  See the progress our poor wee plants have...

Coriander for carrot soup...

I don't know about you, I just love home made carrot soup with lots of fresh coriander...great hot or cold in the summer!







In the greenhouse there is an abundance of tomatoes for salads and soups, we also have tasty courgettes...

Sometimes it's a fight to get the strawberries first (the birds always seem to get them), and I can't wait till my apples and blueberries are ready too!

Pottering in the Garden...

I will be spending most of today in my polytunnel and garden tending to my home grown fruit and vegetables... I find that it's very theraputic and satisfying growing them myself with the knowledge of them being much better for me and my family too!  I have also found that when I grow my own they taste a lot better than commercially grown ones.

In my polytunnel I have tomatoes, cucumbers, corgettes, chillies and some lettuce, which are coming along quite well.  In the garden I have some peas (planted just outside the polytunnel so they can grow up outside the walls!), I also planted some blueberry, blackcurrant, raspberry bushes and lots and lots of strawberry plants.  Fingers crossed Chloe and Jack don't get to them first...

We have apple trees in the front garden and cherry trees out back, last year I did plant a new plum tree but sadly it died and I haven't really had the time to replace it, maybe next year.

Like all gardeners it's fine having a nice garden, but it does take a lot of work and keeping it weed free is just one of the drawbacks of gardening, particularly when not using chemicals to do it for you...but all that said there is nothing to beat relaxing in the garden on a warm summers' night!
